Brady and O’Neal to Lead Star-Studded World Cup Draw Event
FIFA has announced that Tom Brady and Shaquille O’Neal will headline the event for the World Cup draw set for Friday in Washington, D.C.. The draw will assign nations to their respective groups for the upcoming tournament, which is anticipated to be a historic edition featuring 48 teams.
Brady, a renowned seven-time Super Bowl champion, will be joined on stage by notable figures including former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand, Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees, and hockey legend Wayne Gretzky. These stars will assist in the ceremonial drawing of balls that will determine the group placements for participating countries.
Star-Studded Ceremony and Entertainment
In a statement released by FIFA, Brady expressed his excitement about participating in the draw, stating, “Being part of the Final Draw for the FIFA World Cup is an incredible honour — it’s the kind of global stage every athlete dreams of. I’m excited to help set the path for a tournament that brings the world together like nothing else.” This sentiment highlights the significance of the event as a celebration of global unity through sports.
Co-hosting the event alongside Brady will be model Heidi Klum, along with actors Kevin Hart and Danny Ramirez. The entertainment lineup for the ceremony promises to be impressive, featuring performances by renowned artists such as Nicole Scherzinger, Andrea Bocelli, and Robbie Williams. Additionally, the iconic music group The Village People is set to perform their classic hit “Y.M.C.A.”
FIFA will also present its inaugural Peace Prize during the event to recognize outstanding contributions towards global peace efforts. Former NFL player Eli Manning will serve as the red carpet host for the evening.
What to Expect from the 2026 World Cup
The draw will include a record 64 nations, representing more than 30% of FIFA’s member countries. The expansion from 32 teams to 48 for the 2026 World Cup marks a significant shift in the tournament’s structure. As of now, 42 teams have secured their spots, while 22 teams will compete in playoffs to fill the final six berths by March 31, 2026.
This World Cup will feature a total of 104 matches, an increase from the traditional 64 games. The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, across 16 venues in North America. Notably, MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, will host the final match, which will include a halftime show for the first time in World Cup history.
The tournament will see 12 group winners and runners-up progress, along with eight third-place teams advancing to a new round of 32. Each team that emerges victorious will have to navigate through a total of eight matches to claim the coveted title. The United States will kick off its World Cup journey on June 12, 2026, in Inglewood, California, before facing additional matches in Seattle and concluding the group stage back in Inglewood on June 25, 2026.
As the anticipation builds for this iconic event, the World Cup draw promises to set the stage for a month-long celebration of football, culture, and international camaraderie.
