Bosnian Woman Arrested for Forcing Sons into Child Labor

Podgorica police have arrested a 36-year-old woman, identified as M.M., a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on charges of human trafficking involving her two minor sons, aged 11 and 16. The arrest follows the issuance of a criminal complaint to the Higher State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica, highlighting serious allegations of exploitation for financial gain.

Authorities suspect that between September and October 2023, M.M. coerced her sons into forced labor, taking advantage of their difficult living conditions and dependency on her. Reportedly, she instructed them to prepare food that they sold to passersby outside a shopping center in Podgorica. The earnings from these sales were then handed over to M.M.
