Arsenal Eyes £44 Million Deal for Diaz Amid Title Chase
Arsenal is actively pursuing a transfer deal for Real Madrid’s forward Brahim Diaz as they aim to strengthen their squad during this crucial January transfer window. The Gunners have reportedly submitted an offer of £44 million for the 26-year-old player, who has showcased his talent at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This move comes as the club sits atop the Premier League table, leading title contenders Manchester City and Aston Villa by a significant six points.
Arsenal’s next challenge is against Liverpool, who currently trail by 14 points, placing them fourth in the league. Despite being unbeaten in their last nine matches, Liverpool has drawn four of those games, indicating a struggle for consistency. For Arsenal, this season is not only about ending a 22-year title drought but also about pursuing their first Champions League trophy in history.
Transfer News and Prospective Signings
The reported interest in Diaz stems from his limited playing time at Real Madrid, where he has made only four starts this season under coach Xabi Alonso. His performances at AFCON, where he scored the decisive goal in Morocco’s 1-0 victory over Tanzania, have attracted attention. Arsenal views this as an opportune moment to negotiate a transfer, with Diaz proving to be a standout player for his country.
According to Fichajes, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta sees Diaz as a priority signing, envisioning him as a crucial addition to enhance creativity and attacking options in the final third of the pitch.
In addition to their pursuit of Diaz, Arsenal is also targeting young talent. The club has shown interest in Igor Tyjon, a promising 17-year-old from Blackburn Rovers. Arsenal has previously made multiple offers exceeding £1 million, all of which were turned down by Blackburn. Tyjon, currently a scholar at Blackburn, declined a professional contract, making this transfer window critical for both clubs. His scholarship terms expire at the end of the season, meaning Blackburn could lose him without a fee if he joins another English club thereafter.
Contract Negotiations and Future Plans
In other developments, Arsenal is reportedly close to finalizing a new contract for Jurrien Timber. The Dutch international has two-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal, and extension discussions have been ongoing for several weeks. According to TEAMtalk, an official announcement regarding the new terms is expected shortly.
Arsenal has been proactive in securing their squad’s future, with several players, including David Raya, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri, and Leandro Trossard, signing new contracts since the end of the 2024-25 season. Additionally, the club is on the verge of announcing a contract extension for Bukayo Saka until 2031, and they are in advanced talks regarding a new deal for fellow England international Declan Rice.
As the January transfer window progresses, Arsenal’s strategic moves reflect their ambition to compete at the highest level in both domestic and European competitions.
