Shoppers at Tesco in Consett can spread holiday cheer by donating new toys as part of the annual Toy Appeal, in collaboration with The Salvation Army. The initiative runs until December 15 and aims to collect unwrapped toys for children in need within the local community.

Community Champion at Consett Genesis Extra, Kathryn Herdman, emphasized the impact of generosity, stating, “Giving is not just about making a donation – it’s about making a difference. We want to make this our biggest collection yet with the help of the amazing generosity of the Consett community.”

The partnership with The Salvation Army aims to ensure that disadvantaged children experience the joy of the season. Claire De Silva, Head of Communities at Tesco, remarked on the company’s commitment to supporting local children year-round. “Thanks to the generosity of our customers and colleagues, the annual toy donation campaign is a wonderful way to make a difference at Christmas,” she noted.

This year, over 800 large Tesco stores across the UK will feature dedicated donation points where customers can leave new, unwrapped toys purchased in-store. Last year, Tesco customers contributed a total of 125,000 toys, and the retailer is optimistic about surpassing that figure in this year’s campaign.

The Toy Appeal not only highlights Tesco’s commitment to community support but also underscores the importance of collective efforts in making a positive impact during the festive season. By participating in this initiative, the Consett community can come together to ensure that every child has the opportunity to enjoy the magic of Christmas.
