Perceptra Secures €1.2 Million for Photonic Sensor Development
Perceptra has successfully raised €1.2 million to advance the development and commercialization of its next-generation photonic chip-based Raman sensors. This funding, provided by PhotonDelta, represents a significant step forward for the company, enabling it to transform its research into a scalable business model.
Amir Atabaki, CEO of Perceptra, emphasized the importance of this funding, stating, “PhotonDelta’s funding marks a milestone moment in turning our research into a scalable venture. Integrated photonics is redefining what’s possible in molecular sensing.” He highlighted that joining the PhotonDelta ecosystem in the Netherlands will facilitate accelerated development, access to top-tier fabrication resources, and the introduction of Perceptra’s first photonic sensing products to the market.
The recent funding marks a continuation of the collaboration between Perceptra and PhotonDelta, particularly following Perceptra’s success at the 2025 Global Photonics Engineering Contest. The company was recognized for its innovative ultra-compact photonic chip-based Raman sensor designed for real-time molecular monitoring, particularly in the biomanufacturing sector.
Perceptra aims to revolutionize molecular sensing by developing the first ultra-compact and low-cost photonic chip-based Raman sensor. This innovative technology replaces traditional bulky dispersive spectrometers with on-chip tunable lasers, making it more efficient and accessible. With proof-of-concept already demonstrated, the company plans to utilize the €1.2 million funding to create a prototype of its photonic integrated circuit (PIC)-based system.
As part of its strategic growth plans, Perceptra will relocate its integrated photonic research and development operations to the Netherlands. This move is intended to further enhance its collaboration within the PhotonDelta ecosystem, which is known for fostering innovation in the photonics sector.
With the funding now secured, Perceptra is poised to make significant strides in the field of molecular monitoring, promising advancements not only in biomanufacturing but also across various process industries. The company’s commitment to innovation in photonic sensing technology underscores its potential to reshape the landscape of molecular analysis.
As the demand for real-time monitoring solutions continues to grow, Perceptra’s developments could play a crucial role in enhancing efficiency and accuracy in critical manufacturing processes.
