Royal Family Attends Sunday Service at Crathie Kirk Near Balmoral
Members of the British royal family attended a Sunday church service at Crathie Kirk, located near the Balmoral Estate in Aberdeenshire, on October 8, 2023. The gathering included King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales, known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay while in Scotland.
Arriving in separate vehicles, King Charles and Queen Camilla were seen in the back seats of a car as they approached the church. Meanwhile, Prince William drove his wife, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, to the service. This church has been a longstanding place of worship for the royal family, particularly during their summer retreats at Balmoral.
Traditional Worship Spot for the Royal Family
Crathie Kirk serves as a regular worship site for the royals when they are in Scotland. The small parish church is part of the Church of Scotland and has historical significance for the family, as it was frequented by the late Queen Elizabeth II during her time at Balmoral. The royal family’s presence at the service emphasizes their connection to the local community and their commitment to maintaining traditions.
In addition to the King and Queen, the service was also attended by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal. This congregation reflects the royal family’s dedication to faith and public life, showcasing their roles beyond ceremonial duties.
A Summer Tradition
The summer months at Balmoral have become a cherished tradition for the royal family. The estate, which spans over 50,000 acres, has been a royal residence since Queen Victoria’s reign. As a result, the church services at Crathie Kirk are not only spiritual gatherings but also moments where the family engages with their heritage and the Scottish community.
The service on October 8 was a continuation of this tradition, allowing members of the royal family to come together in a familiar setting. Such appearances often draw attention from the public and media, highlighting the ongoing interest in royal activities during their holidays.
As the royal family continues to observe their traditions, events like this Sunday service serve as a reminder of their commitment to both faith and the communities they represent.
