Prince William and Princess Kate Likely to Skip Invictus Games

Prince William and Princess Kate are “unlikely” to attend the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, according to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams. The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, issued an invitation to the Royal Family for the event, which is scheduled to take place from July 10 to July 17, 2027. Founded by Harry in 2014, the Invictus Games aim to support wounded veterans.
While the event is still nearly two years away, Fitzwilliams expressed doubt regarding the attendance of William and Kate. The relationship between the two brothers has soured significantly in recent years, leading to speculation that they may not reconcile before the games. Reports indicate that the siblings have not been on speaking terms, with tensions exacerbated by Harry’s memoir, Spare, released in 2023.
Fitzwilliams commented on the potential absence of other royals, stating, “I strongly doubt Princess Anne will attend.” He pointed out that if King Charles III, aged 76, chooses not to attend, he would likely appoint representatives to attend on his behalf.
Possible Representation at the Games
Although it remains unconfirmed, Fitzwilliams suggested that the King might send Harry’s cousins, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, to represent him at the Invictus Games. Both cousins reportedly maintain a positive relationship with the Sussexes, which could make their attendance more likely.
“Invictus, which Harry founded, is an important military charity,” Fitzwilliams noted. The expert emphasized the significance of the event, especially for the monarch, who serves as the commander in chief of the Armed Forces. If King Charles does not attend, he would be within his rights to send representatives, although such a decision might be perceived as a snub to Harry.
Looking Ahead to the Invictus Games
The Invictus Games have grown in prominence since their inception, focusing on the rehabilitation of injured service members through sports. The upcoming event in Birmingham is set to be a highlight for the military charity, drawing participants and supporters from around the world.
As the date approaches, the dynamics within the royal family continue to evolve. The 2027 Invictus Games may serve as a pivotal moment for reconciliation or further estrangement among its members. Whatever the outcome, the event promises to be a significant occasion for the military community and the public alike.
