Sutjeska Aims for Autumn Title with Crucial Match Against Jedinstvo
The final football weekend of the year marks a pivotal moment for Sutjeska as they seek to secure the autumn championship title. Regardless of competitors’ results, a victory against Jedinstvo will guarantee the team from Nikšić first place before the winter break. This clash is part of the 18th round of the Meridianbet 1. CFL, with four other matches scheduled, including Bokelj facing Dečić and Arsenal hosting OFK Mladost. Additionally, the derby match between Petrovac and Budućnost promises to be a highlight of the day’s fixtures.
With a four-point lead over second-placed Barani, the stakes are high for Sutjeska. A win against the team from Bijelo Polje would effectively solidify their position at the top of the table as they approach the spring phase of the season. Coach Dejan Jelenić emphasized the need for focus, stating, “We have a responsibility to go for three points on our home ground. We remember our last encounter with Jedinstvo in Bijelo Polje, where we struggled to secure a draw. They may sit at the bottom of the table, but they can break their losing streak at any moment.”
Bojan Damjanović, a defender for Sutjeska and a member of the national youth team, echoed the importance of the match. He noted that the team must minimize mistakes and give their best effort to achieve a favorable outcome.
Challenges for Petrovac and Budućnost
In contrast, Petrovac enters their match against current champions Budućnost having recently faced disappointment in the cup against Otrant Olimpik. With just one win in their last six league matches, the “sky-blue” team is under pressure to improve their form. Coach Zdravko Dragićević sees the match as an opportunity for his players, stating, “Facing the reigning champions brings extra motivation. This match could be a turning point for us.”
Dragićević also acknowledged the team’s struggles with injuries, impacting their consistency throughout the season. Key players like Bakic, Kapisoda, and Divanović are sidelined, which has hindered their performance. “It’s been a challenging half-season, and we must fight through these issues,” he added.
On the other hand, Budućnost is also seeking to regain momentum after a recent loss to Bokelj. With a deficit of eight points from the leader, their match against Petrovac could prove crucial for defending their title. Miomir Đuričković, a defender for Budućnost, emphasized the importance of focusing on set pieces to avoid repeating defensive errors that led to their previous defeat. “The match will be decided by small details and whoever shows more desire will come out on top,” he concluded.
Changes in Transfer Policy and Farewell to a Veteran
In a significant development, Budućnost has announced changes in their transfer policy. The club issued a statement regarding the revocation of all previous authorizations for representing the team in transfer negotiations. This decision aims to streamline future dealings and ensure clarity in their operations moving forward.
Meanwhile, the day holds special significance for Sasa Balić, a former Montenegrin international, who will retire from professional football in his hometown of Kotor after the match against Dečić. The 35-year-old defender reflected on his career, stating, “It will be emotional. I have made my first steps in football here, and it feels fitting to conclude my journey with Bokelj.” Balić plans to remain involved in football but has yet to determine his future role.
As the league approaches the winter break, the outcomes of these matches will shape the narrative for the second half of the season, with clubs striving for both victory and stability amid challenging circumstances.
