Rising Star Nina Ramusovic Set for Champion League Return in 2026
Montenegro’s young handball sensation, Nina Ramusovic, is gearing up for a significant return to the court after a challenging recovery period. Set to make her comeback on January 10, 2026, in a Champions League match against Bistrica from Romania, Nina’s journey reflects both resilience and extraordinary talent.
At just 18 years old, Nina’s prowess on the handball field has already earned her recognition as a world-class athlete. Despite facing two career interruptions due to injuries to her anterior cruciate ligaments, her determination remains unwavering. Her journey began in youth leagues, where she made a name for herself playing for teams in Berane and Niksic, before joining the first team of Buducnost.
A Journey Filled with Challenges
Nina made her Champions League debut last year in Podgorica, but her momentum was halted by a serious injury sustained in Germany in January. Following surgery, the recovery process extended until late last year when she returned to the court for two matches against Lokomotiva. Her readiness for the upcoming match is a testament to her dedication and hard work.
“The return to the court took a long time, but it was necessary. Now I am fully prepared,”
Nina shared, reflecting on her intense recovery process. She credited her family, coaches, and support network for helping her navigate this challenging period.
Her family has played a crucial role in her motivation, providing both emotional support and encouragement throughout her recovery. “Whenever I faced tough moments, they brought me back on track and helped me focus on the positives,” she said, highlighting the importance of her close-knit support system.
While sidelined, Nina kept herself occupied through studying and focused training sessions, ensuring she remained engaged with the sport she loves. “Training and recovery were my priorities. I organized my time well and didn’t have issues with the extra time on my hands,” she noted, acknowledging the significant contributions of her conditioning coach, Milivoje Đurđic, and physiotherapist, Mitar Vujovic.
Looking Ahead
Nina’s passion for handball shines through as she expresses her excitement about returning to play. “I was eagerly waiting to step back on the court. It feels like my biggest desire has been fulfilled,” she said emotionally, emphasizing how much joy the sport brings her.
Despite missing the junior European Championship last summer, Nina remained an avid supporter of her team, attending all their matches during the World Championship. “I followed every game and cheered for them. I’m thrilled they achieved such a great result. I can’t wait to join them,” she added, underlining her commitment to the sport and her teammates.
Nina is optimistic about Buducnost’s prospects in the Champions League, particularly after their impressive last match against Esbjerg. “We were ready for such a strong opponent. I sincerely hope we continue to perform as we did against the Danish team,” she stated, confident in her team’s ability to battle for every point and achieve their goals.
With dreams of joining the senior national team, Nina remains focused on her individual growth as well. “I want to achieve the best possible placement at the World Championship with my juniors while also aspiring for the senior team,” she remarked, expressing her ambition and dedication.
As she prepares for her upcoming match, Nina reflects on her past experiences and the support she has received, particularly from her former coach, Bojana Popovic, who played a vital role in her recovery journey. “Bojana helped me tremendously before she left,” she said, highlighting the influence of mentors in her career.
Nina Ramusovic’s story is one of resilience, determination, and a love for handball that continues to inspire. With her sights set firmly on the future, she is ready to leave her mark in the world of sports as she returns to the court in 2026.
