The music platform Bandcamp has officially banned the publication of content generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI), igniting debates about originality and the future of creativity in the music industry. This decision, announced on January 13, 2026, stems from concerns regarding undefined copyright issues and the potential existential threat posed to musicians by AI-generated music.

Bandcamp stated that the policy aims to respect the “vast amount of human creativity and passion” expressed by artists on its platform. The company emphasized that it is home to a vibrant community of real people creating incredible music, which they seek to protect. The platform’s new rules prohibit any use of AI tools to imitate another artist or style, aligning with existing regulations concerning copyright and intellectual property.

He states, “AI can imitate styles, but it cannot replace the authentic voice, experience, and personal imprint of an artist.” He encourages artists to familiarize themselves with these tools, suggesting that those who embrace AI appropriately will gain an advantage, whereas those who rely solely on imitation will likely fall behind.

This platform allows users to generate complete music tracks based on brief textual descriptions, encompassing everything from instrumental arrangements to vocals and final production. Vojvodić finds Suno to be a practical tool that expedites the creative process.
