Mariah Carey’s Iconic ‘Protect the Dolls’ Jacket to Auction for Charity
Mariah Carey’s iconic bedazzled jacket, featuring the phrase “Protect the Dolls,” will be auctioned to benefit LGBTQ+ charities. The jacket gained attention when Carey wore it during her performance at Brighton Pride earlier this year. Adorning a sparkling dress in the colors of the trans flag, the pink bomber jacket showcased its empowering message in rhinestones, reflecting the term “dolls,” often used by trans women to affirm their femininity.
On December 3, 2025, the LGBTQ media advocacy organization GLAAD announced the auction will take place on eBay. Scheduled for December 8 at 3:00 PM Eastern Time, 12:00 PM Pacific Time, and 8:00 PM UK time, the jacket will start with an opening bid of just $0.99 (£0.74). The auction will run for one week, concluding on December 15, just in time for the holiday season. Interested bidders can find the auction link on GLAAD’s website.
GLAAD has confirmed that all profits from this auction will support its Transgender Media Program. Through this initiative, GLAAD collaborates with news outlets, studios, and networks to ensure accurate and inclusive storytelling about trans individuals. The program also provides training for trans people, empowering them to share their experiences effectively.
The “Protect the Dolls” design originally debuted at Conner Ives’ Fall 2025 runway show during London Fashion Week in February. This creative response came amidst a surge of anti-trans rhetoric and political attacks in the United States and globally. Following the design’s popularity, a t-shirt version was made available for purchase, with proceeds directed to Trans Lifeline, a peer support and crisis hotline serving trans individuals in the U.S. and Canada.
In September, Ives reported that the t-shirt sales had already raised over $600,000 (£445,186.42). This financial support not only aids Trans Lifeline but also provides micro-grants to assist trans individuals across the U.S.
This auction reflects ongoing efforts to raise visibility and support for the LGBTQ+ community, particularly in challenging times for trans rights. With Mariah Carey’s influence and GLAAD’s commitment, the initiative aims to foster understanding and acceptance while generating essential funds for advocacy work.
As the auction date approaches, fans and supporters are encouraged to participate and contribute to a meaningful cause.
