Liverpool Launches Christmas Tree Recycling Drive in January
Residents in Liverpool have the opportunity to recycle their real Christmas trees at designated drop-off points from January 2 to January 23, 2024. With the festive season now concluded, the city is promoting environmentally responsible disposal of Christmas trees, allowing households to contribute to sustainability efforts.
Liverpool City Council has established 13 recycling locations across the city. These spots will accept real trees, encouraging residents to recycle rather than discard them improperly. The trees can be shredded into chippings, which are then utilized in parks, woodland areas, or even to reinforce sand dunes in coastal towns, helping to combat erosion.
The designated drop-off locations include:
– **Stanley Park**: Priory Road car park (L4)
– **Everton Park**: Viewing Platform, Netherfield Road North (L5)
– **Newsham Park**: Gardener’s Drive, Sheil Road end (L7)
– **Sefton Park**: Review Field, Ullet Road Gate (L8)
– **Croxteth Park**: Oak Lane car park (L11)
– **Wavertree Park**: Tennis Centre car park (L15)
– **Otterspool Promenade**: First car park (L17)
– **Calderstones Park**: Calderstones Road car park (L18)
– **Calderstones Park**: Yew Tree Road car park (L18)
– **Menlove Avenue Triangle**: Menlove Gardens/Green Lane (L18)
– **Long Lane Recreation Ground**: Garston (L19)
– **Alderfield Road**: Speke, by Millwood (L24)
– **Woolton High Street**: Boys Club car park (L25)
In addition to these drop-off points, real Christmas trees can be taken to household waste recycling centres operated by Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority. Notable centres include the Otterspool Recycling Centre on Jericho Lane, Aigburth, and the Old Swan Household Waste Recycling Centre on Cheadle Avenue. Both facilities are open daily from 08:00 to 17:00 during winter, except on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Local charities are also participating in tree recycling initiatives. The Woodlands Hospice Christmas Tree Collection and Recycling service will operate from January 5 to January 9. The hospice will collect trees in exchange for a minimum donation of £15, with the chippings used to maintain the nearby Bluebell Woods.
Similarly, St Joseph’s Hospice will conduct tree collections from January 17 to January 21, with proceeds supporting patient care. They will accept collections from various areas, including L9, L10, and L21, and offer drop-offs at their hospice on Ince Road, Thornton. A minimum donation of £10 applies for trees under 6 feet, with a charge of £20 for taller trees. Tree collection bookings close on January 13.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these services to ensure their Christmas trees are disposed of responsibly, contributing positively to their local environment.
