Leicester Pride Parade Celebrates Diversity with Colorful March

Thousands of people from the LGBT community and their supporters gathered in Leicester today, August 30, 2023, for the city’s annual Pride parade. The vibrant event showcased a colorful procession that flowed through the city centre, culminating in a lively celebration at Abbey Park.
The parade, which began outside the Curve Theatre, featured a variety of performances, including a drag queen leading the march and drummers setting an energetic rhythm. Onlookers, including local shoppers, paused to witness the celebration of diversity and inclusion.
Among the participants were Daisy Richards and Tristan Webster, both 30 years old and hailing from Leicester Forest East. As they joined the parade, Daisy expressed her enthusiasm, recalling her previous experiences. “It’s always amazing—really inclusive, fun and colorful,” she noted. “You get people of all ages, too.” She highlighted the live music at Abbey Park, featuring local acts, as a significant draw for attendees.
Tristan, who was participating for the second time, echoed her sentiments. “Last time it was great. A long day but a lot of fun,” he shared. The sense of community and joy was palpable as participants made their way through the streets.
Jackie Penney, 64, from Blaby, attended the event for the first time with a group of colleagues. She noted, “It’s a brilliant event, and I’ve been looking forward to the parade and then going down to the park.” With approximately 15 to 20 co-workers attending, Jackie appreciated the festive atmosphere that the parade fostered.
A young man from the Hinckley area, who wished to be identified only as Ben, participated in the parade as he began to engage more with the LGBT community. Having recently come out to a family member, he expressed excitement about his first Pride experience. “I’ve never been to Leicester Pride before— or any others. But I’ve been going out more recently to events,” he shared.
The crowd also included spectators who had traveled specifically to witness the parade. Claire Woodward, 49, from Wigston, attended with her family and reflected on the significance of the event. “It just celebrates the diversity of Leicester and brings the community together,” she stated.
The festivities at Abbey Park continued until 21:00, featuring performances and activities designed to engage attendees of all ages. Participants and spectators alike celebrated the spirit of inclusivity and the rich diversity that Leicester embodies, making this year’s Pride parade a memorable event for all involved.
