This weekend, visitors to Hewins Wood Pottery in Bradfield can immerse themselves in a festive atmosphere as potter Andrew Hazelden hosts his annual Christmas show. The event begins on December 16 and runs until December 20, featuring the works of Hazelden alongside two talented artists, painter Freya Barton and wreath-maker Jane Body.

Festive Offerings and Artistic Creations

From 11:00 to 16:00 each day, guests can enjoy freshly baked mince pies warming on the workshop woodstove, complemented by a selection of festive refreshments. In the adjoining showroom, attendees will find Hazelden’s new pottery collection, which boasts an impressive range of items, from large bowls to delicate espresso cups and elegant serving dishes. His renowned tin-glaze earthenware and exceptional reduction lustreware will also be on display, showcasing his mastery of a technique that few have perfected.

The lustreware is particularly striking, displaying iridescent qualities that beautifully reflect natural light. Hazelden’s expertise has established him as a leading figure in this craft, making his work highly sought after during the holiday season.

Artistic Collaborations and Unique Gifts

Alongside Hazelden’s pottery, Freya Barton‘s vibrant paintings will add a splash of colour to the event. Influenced by folk art and the Swedish painted furniture tradition, Barton’s decorative interior views are both playful and engaging. Her work invites visitors to explore the warmth and charm of festive decor.

Jane Body will present her exquisite collection of handcrafted wreaths. These stunning creations are designed for various settings, from grand front doors to intimate cottage entrances, as well as table centrepieces and candle holders. Each wreath is meticulously crafted, ensuring they remain beautiful throughout the season and beyond. For those interested in a DIY project, Body will also offer wreath-making kits, allowing guests to create their own unique designs.

The pottery at Hewins Wood Farm, located at RG7 6DH, will be closed on December 17 but will reopen from December 18 to December 23, operating daily from 11:00 to 17:00. This Christmas show provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy local artistry while finding unique gifts and festive decor.
