Under the direction of Ben de Souza, the concert will feature a diverse selection of pieces that reflect the American musical landscape. Choral Works and Talented Performers

The program further embraces the American choral tradition with selections influenced by spirituals and folk songs. Notable pieces include Deep River, Simple Gifts, and We Shall Walk Through the Valley. Local pianist Georgina Robertson will accompany the choir, enhancing the concert’s musical experience.

Adding to the evening’s allure, soprano soloist Elisabeth Cullen will perform compositions by George Gershwin and Samuel Barber. Currently studying voice with Mary Nelson at the Royal Academy of Music, Cullen’s involvement promises to elevate the concert with her vocal talent.

A Tradition of Musical Excellence

The Newbury Chamber Choir, originally founded as the Newbury Singers by acclaimed composer Gerald Finzi in the 1940s, has a rich history of musical excellence. The choir typically holds three to four concerts annually and is renowned for reviving lesser-known works, along with delivering high-quality performances of well-established pieces. Their repertoire spans several centuries, offering a journey through music from the 13th to the 21st century.

The concert will begin at 19:30 and tickets are available for purchase at £18, with a discounted price of £5 for attendees under 18. Tickets can be secured online at www.newburychamberchoir.org or at the door on the night of the performance.

The choir is supported by the Greenham Common Trust and welcomes inquiries from prospective members, as there are no auditions required.
