Buducnost Voli Secures Key Victory in Ljubljana, Tops Group B
In a thrilling contest, Buducnost Voli triumphed over Cedevita Olimpija in Ljubljana with a final score of 83-72, solidifying their position at the top of Group B in the regional basketball league. The victory came after a remarkable 13-0 run in the last four minutes of the match, showcasing the team’s resilience when it mattered most.
Buducnost Voli, coached by Andrej Zakelja, now boasts an impressive record of 11 wins and 2 losses, placing them ahead of Cedevita Olimpija, which has 10 wins and 3 losses. The outcome sets the stage for a potential decisive clash against Red Star in Podgorica on February 9, 2024. This upcoming match could ultimately determine the top spot in Group B.
The first half of the game unfolded as expected for a derby match, with frequent lead changes and both teams vying for dominance. After a competitive first quarter, Buducnost led narrowly at 24-23. The teams displayed sharp shooting from beyond the arc, with Buducnost landing three three-pointers from five attempts, while Cedevita managed three from six.
Buducnost maintained a slight edge in field goal accuracy, hitting 70% on two-point attempts compared to Cedevita’s 55.6%. Free throws also played a pivotal role, as Buducnost capitalized on their opportunities, converting 8 of 10, while Cedevita missed both of their attempts.
The second quarter saw Buducnost taking a 36-34 lead thanks to five consecutive points from Nikola Tanaskovic. Yet, Cedevita responded, regaining the lead briefly before heading into halftime with a marginal advantage at 40-39.
As the third quarter progressed, Cedevita Olimpija stretched their lead to eight points, reaching 52-44. However, Buducnost rallied back, executing a 6-0 run to regain the advantage at 58-57. Despite their efforts, Cedevita closed the quarter ahead at 60-58.
The final quarter proved crucial as Buducnost tightened their defense and unleashed a dynamic offensive display. After trailing briefly, Buducnost surged ahead, ultimately outscoring their opponents 25-12 in the final period.
Djeri Butsijel emerged as the standout player, recording a remarkable 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. Other notable contributions came from Tanaskovic with 13 points, and Đorđije Jovanović who added 11 points.
Buducnost’s next challenge will be against Bosnia on January 24, 2024, before they face the high-stakes match against Red Star. This victory not only boosts their confidence but also solidifies their standing as a formidable contender in the league.
