£60,000 Funding Boost for Community Projects in North Wales

Community initiatives across North Wales will receive a significant funding boost of £60,000 through the Your Community, Your Choice (YCYC) initiative. This funding is aimed at supporting grassroots projects that foster community engagement and enhance safety, with contributions from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC), North Wales Police (NWP), and the North Wales Police and Community Trust (PACT).

The funding initiative is partially financed by money recovered under the Proceeds of Crime Act, with the remainder provided by Police and Crime Commissioner Andy Dunbobbin. Over the past 13 years, YCYC has allocated more than £650,000 to various community projects in North Wales, aligning with the priorities outlined in the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan. This plan prioritizes local neighbourhood policing, support for victims and businesses, and a fair criminal justice system.

Funding Details and Application Process

This year, the available funding will be distributed across 21 projects. Community groups can apply for grants of up to £2,500, while organisations that operate in three or more counties may qualify for funding of up to £5,000. The projects that receive the most public votes will be awarded funding.

Interested groups can access a user-friendly online application form available on the OPCC website, which includes a convenient save and resume feature for flexibility. For those preferring a traditional method, a Word document application is also available upon request. The application window opens today, January 26, 2026, and will close on February 20, 2026.

A panel consisting of representatives from the Police and Crime Commissioner’s office, PACT, and North Wales Police will shortlist applicants. Final funding recipients will be determined by public vote in early March 2026.

Community Impact and Statements from Officials

Commissioner Andy Dunbobbin expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “Your Community, Your Choice is an initiative that brings real and visible benefits to organisations and communities across North Wales. Supporting victims, communities, and businesses is at the heart of my plan for cutting crime in North Wales. I urge any suitable local organisation to seize this opportunity to help shape a safer North Wales.”

Pact Chairman Ashley Rogers highlighted the initiative’s focus on building resilient communities, encouraging organisations to apply for funding that has a long-term positive impact. “Together, we can help build an even stronger community for all,” he stated.

Assistant Chief Constable Gareth Evans emphasized the importance of collaboration in enhancing community safety. He remarked, “By working together, we can make North Wales the safest place in the UK to live, work, and visit. Community organisations play a vital role in making this happen.”

For additional information on the application process and funding details, interested parties can visit the OPCC website, social media channels, or the PACT and North Wales Police websites. Alternatively, inquiries can be directed via email to the appropriate contact points.
