Surge in Cognitive Supplements Highlights Men’s Mental Health Needs
The global dietary supplement market is witnessing a significant shift, with nearly 25% of all products now claiming to support cognitive function, mental well-being, memory, or sleep. This revelation comes from Nick Stene, senior global insight manager at Euromonitor International, who will present insights at the upcoming NutraIngredients’ Mind Health Modulation Webinar on December 11, 2023.
Stene highlighted that traditional ingredients such as omega-3 and magnesium continue to dominate mind-focused supplements. However, he noted a remarkable increase in products featuring ingredients like mushrooms, NAD+, and Resveratrol. This diversification reflects not only a growing interest in cognitive health but also the evolving landscape of nutritional supplements.
Men’s Mental Health Gains Attention
While women’s health has been a prominent focus in the supplements market—particularly in relation to menopause—Stene predicts that 2027 could mark a turning point for men’s mental health awareness. As societal norms shift, men are increasingly encouraged to discuss their mental health openly and seek support without stigma.
“Men’s health will rise, not because there’s a new need but because there’s a newly recognized need,” Stene stated. He emphasized the cultural shift towards acceptance, where men feel safer expressing vulnerability. This change may also bring attention to andropause, a phase in men’s lives characterized by a gradual decline in testosterone levels, similar to menopause in women.
Stene explained the implications of declining testosterone, noting its significant impact on overall health, including fitness and mental well-being. As men navigate these changes, the intersection of mental health and physical health becomes increasingly important.
Upcoming Webinar to Explore Innovations
Stene’s in-depth presentation at the NutraIngredients webinar will cover new product development trends, highlighting ingredients that are gaining traction and identifying opportunities for innovation in the realm of cognitive health. He will be joined by Suria Darley, head of product development at Holland & Barrett, and Rachael Hall, director of health & beauty at Love Mushrooms.
Participants can expect discussions on the latest scientific research supporting various brain-boosting bioactives, including botanicals, biotics, and medicinal mushrooms.
For those interested in exploring this burgeoning field of men’s mental health and cognitive enhancement, registration for the webinar is available through the NutraIngredients website. As the dialogue around mental health continues to evolve, this event promises to shed light on critical innovations and consumer trends shaping the future of dietary supplements.
