Northern Ireland Health Trust Seeks Foster Home for Young Boy

A health trust in Northern Ireland has launched an urgent appeal to find a long-term foster home for a three-year-old boy named Ben. This initiative, issued by the South Eastern Trust, aims to provide Ben with the stable environment he desperately needs after experiencing significant challenges in his early life.
Ben, whose name has been changed to protect his identity, has strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes. His early years have been marked by severe neglect and multiple placement changes, which have impacted his development and emotional well-being. As a result, he is currently awaiting an assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and exhibits some behavioral needs that require understanding and patience.
According to a spokesperson from the South Eastern Trust, “Ben is a very energetic little boy who loves to play.” His favorite activities include water play, outings to parks and the beach, toddler gymnastics, and sensory play. He enjoys exploring his surroundings but requires close supervision as he is still learning about potential dangers.
Ben’s communication is primarily non-verbal, relying on sounds to express himself. He responds positively to sensory experiences, particularly those involving water. Furthermore, he enjoys engaging in ball games, swimming, messy play, and gymnastics designed for young children.
On the home front, Ben has established a settled bedtime routine that allows him to sleep well through the night. He finds comfort in a favorite blanket, which he wraps around himself at bedtime. Soon, he is expected to begin attending nursery for several hours each week, marking a new step in his development.
Ideal foster arrangements for Ben would involve a household with two caregivers where he is the only child or alongside older children who can understand and accommodate his specific needs. The Trust emphasizes that despite his challenging beginnings, Ben is sweet and affectionate. He has the potential to flourish with the right level of love, consistency, and support.
The South Eastern Trust assures that it will provide comprehensive support to any prospective foster carers, ensuring they have the resources needed to nurture Ben effectively. Those interested in providing a home for Ben can contact the Trust at 0800 0720 137 or can complete an online inquiry form for further details.
This appeal highlights the urgent need for foster care in Northern Ireland. As children like Ben seek loving environments where they can thrive, communities are encouraged to consider the impact of fostering on a child’s life and the positive changes it can bring.
