Kaleidoscope Theatre Launches Open Auditions for 80s Musical Twist on Pride and Prejudice
Local theatre company Kaleidoscope is inviting performers to audition for its innovative new production, titled Pride and Prejudice and 80’s Hits!. This fresh take on Jane Austen’s beloved novel blends the classic narrative with the vibrant music of the 1980s. The auditions aim to assemble a dynamic cast of singers, actors, and dancers, particularly for the iconic roles of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.
The production promises to be a “bold and joyful new musical,” offering a unique twist where Austen’s sharp wit and romantic themes intersect with the anthems that defined a generation. According to a spokesperson for Kaleidoscope, “Audiences will fall head over heels for this glittering musical mash-up featuring Austen’s sharp wit, swooning romance, and unforgettable 80s chart-toppers.” The show is set to deliver an experience filled with “passion, prejudice, and pure pop perfection,” ensuring that manners matter, hearts race, and love ultimately prevails.
Open Auditions Scheduled for Late January
Kaleidoscope is encouraging local talent from all backgrounds to audition, emphasizing that previous experience is not a strict requirement. The company is particularly keen to hear from individuals who bring passion, personality, and a love for storytelling through music. Auditions are scheduled for late January, and the theatre is looking to build a strong ensemble capable of delivering high-energy performances.
Director Kerry Rooney MBE expressed the essence of the production, stating, “This show is about joy, chemistry, and connection—on stage and with the audience.” Rooney highlighted the opportunity for aspiring performers to take on various roles, whether as a romantic lead, a comic scene-stealer, or part of the ensemble set to iconic 80s pop classics.
The musical will be showcased at the Waterfront Hall in May 2026, combining Austen’s unforgettable characters with a soundtrack that resonates with nostalgia. The production aims to provide a theatrical experience that is both witty and irresistibly fun, appealing to audiences who cherish classic literature and 80s music.
