Exciting Films and TV Shows Filmed in Northern Ireland Set for 2026
Northern Ireland’s film and television industry continues to thrive, with a variety of highly anticipated projects expected to grace screens in 2026. The region has attracted Hollywood talent, award-winning producers, and creative crews, further establishing its reputation as a vibrant hub for media production. Several exciting films and television series filmed in 2025 are set to debut soon, showcasing Northern Ireland’s unique landscapes and talent.
One of the standout projects is the new Netflix series, How To Get To Heaven From Belfast, created by Lisa McGee, the acclaimed writer behind the popular Channel 4 comedy Derry Girls. This series follows three lifelong friends—Saoirse, Robyn, and Dara—who reunite after the death of a childhood companion. Their journey, which begins at a wake, leads them into a darkly comedic adventure across Ireland as they confront secrets from their past. Filming wrapped up in September 2024, and viewers can expect its release next month.
In a return to the world of Westeros, the highly anticipated series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to air on Sky Atlantic and Now TV starting January 19, 2026. Adapted from George R. R. Martin’s novella, this prequel unfolds the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg, approximately 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The production, which began filming in Northern Ireland in 2024, promises to deliver the intrigue and excitement that fans have come to expect from this beloved franchise.
Another notable project is a reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale, directed by Michael Sarnoski and featuring Hollywood stars Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer. Filming concluded in March 2025 at Belfast Harbour Studios, with support from Northern Ireland Screen. This version portrays a grizzled Robin Hood grappling with his violent past, offering a fresh perspective on the legendary figure.
Hollywood actor Bill Murray is set to explore Northern Ireland in his upcoming series Off Course, scheduled for release in 2026. This unique programme combines golf with Murray’s trademark humor as he navigates iconic courses across both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The show promises an engaging mix of unscripted moments and personal insights, reflecting the beauty and character of the region.
The BBC is also expanding its offerings with a new quiz show titled Do You Know Your Place, hosted by Vernon Kay and featuring Paul Gorton from The Traitors. Filmed in Belfast, the show challenges celebrity guests’ knowledge of the UK through a series of entertaining questions and games, with an air date expected later this year.
In the realm of children’s programming, Crookhaven is an upcoming drama based on a popular book series by JJ Arcanjo. Set in a secret school for misfits, the series confronts themes of identity and loyalty while following a group of students facing off against a menacing foe known as The Nameless. The BBC announced that the show will consist of eight episodes and is set to premiere on BBC iPlayer early next year.
Additionally, The Finish Line, a competitive quiz show hosted by Roman Kemp and Sarah Greene, filmed its fourth season in Northern Ireland late last year. Contestants will race through various challenges for a chance to win a cash prize of £5,000. Kemp expressed enthusiasm about returning to Northern Ireland for the production.
Lastly, Ronan Keating’s Wild Atlantic invites audiences on a journey through the stunning landscapes of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Coast. Part of the series was filmed in Derry and showcases Keating’s personal connection to the region. Co-commissioned by BBC Daytime and BBC Northern Ireland, this travelogue is part of the Hot House initiative and promises to be both heartfelt and visually captivating.
As Northern Ireland continues to gain prominence in the global film industry, these upcoming releases highlight the region’s artistic talent and breathtaking scenery. Audiences can look forward to an exciting array of content that not only entertains but also showcases the rich culture and landscapes of Northern Ireland.
