Baby Ollie has successfully undergone lifesaving heart surgery at Stanford Hospital in California. The procedure, conducted on January 20, 2024, involved repairing critical faults in his heart, a significant milestone for the infant and his family.

Jasmin Roberts, Ollie’s mother from Wrexham, shared the news in a heartfelt social media post. “Today has been the longest and hardest day of my life, but I am so relieved to be able to say the surgery was a success!” she wrote. The operation included unifocalization, shunt repair, and closure of a ventricular septal defect (VSD). Currently, Ollie is recovering in the intensive care unit and will remain sedated for several days.

The surgeon expressed optimism about Ollie’s recovery, noting that the infant has performed better than expected. “That’s the little fighter Ollie is,” Roberts added, reflecting on the emotional challenges of seeing her son post-surgery. She mentioned that his color has started to improve, bringing hope to the family during this critical time.

Jasmin Roberts launched a massive fundraising campaign that successfully raised £1.5 million, enabling her and Ollie to access this urgent medical procedure. She expressed deep gratitude to everyone involved, saying, “Thank you for making this possible, for helping to save my baby’s heart.”

In her emotional message, Roberts conveyed how surreal it felt to have reached this moment after just five months of fundraising. “Everything feels surreal, like I’m going to wake up and it’ll all be a dream. But thanks to you, my biggest dream has actually come true,” she stated.

Looking ahead, Ollie is scheduled for a second surgery in the UK, which will complete his heart repair. Roberts concluded her post with a message of pride for her son, emphasizing his bravery. “Ollie, if you read this one day, I am so incredibly proud of you. You’re the strongest, bravest boy in the world, and I cannot wait until you’re back to running me ragged, but this time with higher sats.”

The successful operation not only marks a significant medical achievement but also highlights the power of community support in times of need. As Ollie’s family navigates the upcoming recovery and future procedures, their journey continues to inspire many across the globe.
