Total War Series Marks 25 Years with Total War: Medieval 3 Reveal
Creative Assembly has officially announced the much-anticipated addition to its renowned Total War series, Total War: Medieval 3. This announcement came during a livestream celebrating the franchise’s 25th anniversary. After nearly two decades of focusing on titles like Total War: Warhammer and Shogun, the developer is returning to its historical roots, much to the excitement of fans.
The revelation of Total War: Medieval 3 caught many by surprise, especially considering that the last installment, Total War: Medieval 2, was released in 2006. While details remain sparse, the developers emphasized that this new game would represent a “bold revolution” for the franchise. Fans can expect significant gameplay changes, although specific features have yet to be disclosed.
Ultimate Medieval Strategy Experience
According to Creative Assembly, Total War: Medieval 3 aims to be the “ultimate medieval strategy sandbox.” Players will have the opportunity to engage in large-scale warfare while also shaping realms and immersing themselves in the intricacies of the Middle Ages. The developers highlighted their commitment to historical authenticity, promising to maintain a balance between creative storytelling and factual accuracy.
The game will utilize Creative Assembly’s latest game engine, Warcore, which is designed to enhance rendering and visuals significantly. This advancement is expected to provide richer campaign-building elements, setting a new standard for future Total War titles. Although no release date has been established, the developers indicated that the game is currently in early pre-production and may take an estimated 2-3 years before it becomes available to the public.
While fans await more details, Creative Assembly has teased an additional major announcement scheduled for December 11, 2025, at The Game Awards. The nature of this forthcoming reveal remains closely guarded, but it is described as “Total War’s next major release,” set to be one of the most ambitious projects in the franchise’s history.
Speculation on Future Titles
As anticipation builds, speculation surrounding the upcoming announcement has begun to swirl. Many fans are hoping that it could involve a new entry in the Total War: Warhammer series, given its popularity within the franchise. Although Total War: Warhammer 3 was just released in 2022, fans are eager for additional content. The upcoming downloadable content, Lords of the End Times, is set to launch in the summer of 2026, yet many are already dreaming of a remake using the new engine.
While the excitement for Total War: Medieval 3 is palpable, the gaming community is eagerly awaiting the surprises that Creative Assembly has in store for the future. With the next major Total War game on the horizon, fans have much to look forward to in this storied franchise.
