Together For Palestine Launches Charity Single ‘LULLABY’ for Christmas
The charity initiative Together For Palestine has released its Christmas single, titled ‘LULLABY’. This follows the success of a sold-out concert at Wembley Stadium that raised an impressive £1.8 million for humanitarian aid. The goal of the new single is to achieve the coveted Christmas number one spot on music charts while generating significant funds for those in need.
A collaboration of over 15 artists from the UK and Palestine, ‘LULLABY’ is a reimagining of a traditional Palestinian lullaby. It aims to convey a message of hope and solidarity to the region where the Christmas story originated. The track features notable artists such as Amena, Brian Eno, Celeste, and Mabel, among others.
Exploring Themes of Longing and Resilience
‘LULLABY’ is an adaptation of the song ‘Yamma Mweel El Hawa’ (O song of longing, mother), which expresses themes of love, longing, and resilience. This timeless Palestinian song resonates deeply within the culture, often heard at weddings and public gatherings. The repeated use of “Yamma” serves as a poignant reminder of familial bonds and the grief experienced in times of loss, particularly within the context of the ongoing conflict in the region.
The arrangement of the song was crafted by Kieran Brunt and Nai Barghouti, with additional contributions from Benji B. English lyrics were penned by acclaimed musician Peter Gabriel, while some phrases draw inspiration from the works of renowned Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. The single’s artwork was created by Gazan artist Malak Mattar.
Impactful Music Video and Human Connection
Accompanying the single is a powerful music video directed by Lina Makoul. The video was shot across various locations in Palestine, including Gaza, and aims to portray the beauty of the land and the resilience of its people. In her remarks about the project, Makoul highlighted the struggle against the negative stereotypes often associated with Palestinians.
“Our screens have been filled with devastating footage from Gaza for more than two years now,” said Makoul. “While this exposure has raised awareness, it can also create a narrow perception of Palestinians as solely victims. It is my responsibility as a storyteller to showcase our humanity and dignity.”
Fans are encouraged to purchase ‘LULLABY’, which is available on all digital platforms. All proceeds from the single will be donated to three Palestinian organizations: Taawon, the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, and the Palestinian Medical Relief Society. These contributions will be facilitated through the Choose Love’s Together for Palestine Fund, significantly impacting those in need during the holiday season.
This initiative signifies not only a musical endeavor but also a heartfelt appeal for unity and support for the Palestinian community during challenging times.
