Strong Winds Topple 24-Meter Statue of Liberty Replica in Brazil

High winds have caused the collapse of a 24-meter replica of the Statue of Liberty in Brazil. The incident occurred in the city of Guaíba, located in the federal state of Rio Grande do Sul, on December 15, 2025. Local media reported that the statue, a prominent feature outside a Havan retail location, was toppled by gusts reaching speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour.

The city’s mayor, Marcelo Maranata, confirmed the event and reported that there were no injuries associated with the collapse. Video footage circulating on social media shows the statue, situated across from a McDonald’s within the parking lot of the Havan store, swaying before it ultimately fell to the ground.

According to preliminary reports, the strong winds and stormy gusts were significant enough to cause the structure to lean precariously before collapsing. The statue, along with its base, originally stood at a total height of 35 meters. In the fall, the 24-meter statue sustained damage, although the extent of the destruction has yet to be fully assessed.
