Paul Weller and Alex James Set for Concerts at Dreamland in Kent
Two iconic musicians, Paul Weller and Alex James, have announced performances at Dreamland’s Scenic Stage in Margate, Kent, next summer. Tickets for both concerts will be available for purchase starting tomorrow, October 31, 2023.
Paul Weller, known for his influential role in the music scene, previously performed at this vintage fairground venue in 2022. He will grace the stage again on July 3, 2024, with special guests joining him for the evening. Weller first gained fame in the late 1970s as the frontman of The Jam, a band that quickly rose to prominence with hits like “In the City” and “Town Called Malice.” Following The Jam’s split in 1982, Weller formed The Style Council and embarked on a successful solo career, earning four BRIT Awards along the way. His music and style helped spark the mod revival and have influenced countless artists, including those in the Britpop movement.
On July 24, 2024, Alex James will present his Britpop Classical concert at the same venue. This marks the first time he takes this unique production on the road. James, best known as the bassist for Blur, will showcase a symphonic interpretation of popular Britpop songs, including classics from his band as well as tracks from Oasis, Pulp, Supergrass, and The Verve. The performance will feature the London Concert Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, along with guest vocalists such as Phil Daniels, Saffron of Republica, and Gary Stringer of Reef.
Reflecting on the importance of this tour, James remarked, “Somehow, all of these songs mean more to people now than they did when they were first released. They really resonate with my kids’ generation too.” He expressed excitement about bringing these classic tracks to life with an orchestra and live band, saying it “totally blew the roof off at Feastival.”
Tickets for Weller’s concert will go on sale at 10:00 AM local time, while tickets for James’ performance will become available at 12:00 PM. Fans are encouraged to act quickly, as demand for these concerts is expected to be high.
Both events at Dreamland promise to be memorable, celebrating the rich musical legacies of Weller and James. Music enthusiasts should not miss out on the opportunity to experience these legendary artists in an iconic setting.
