New Victorian Tea Room Opens in Sutton Coldfield, Offering Timeless Delights
A new addition to Sutton Coldfield’s dining scene, the Victorian Tea Room, opened its doors on December 12, 2026, offering a nostalgic experience that transports visitors to a bygone era. Located at the Gracechurch Centre, the tea room serves a variety of traditional afternoon teas, sandwiches, and freshly baked cakes.
Run by local couple Hannah Fisher and Steven Brain, the tearoom combines a unique menu with an authentic Victorian aesthetic. The venue occupies a space that was previously home to Ted’s Potatoes and a Jessops camera shop. Upon entering, guests are greeted by period furniture, vintage paintings, and a grandfather clock, all contributing to the inviting atmosphere reminiscent of the Victorian age.
The menu features classic baked goods, including a freshly made Victoria Sponge, lemon drizzle cake, and scones with cream and jam. A selection of sandwiches is available, including beef and horseradish, ham and mustard, and egg mayonnaise, with prices starting at a reasonable £12.95 per person for the afternoon tea experience. Individual slices of cake are also offered for those who prefer a lighter option.
Hannah and Steven originally intended to open a dessert café specializing in cookie dough pies under the name Dough Ay We. Their journey began three years ago when they started selling these treats at local farmers’ markets. However, a sudden disruption occurred when their previous premises were repossessed, leaving them without a place to operate.
“We were given an hour to clear out,” Steven explained. “The electric company turned up with a writ to cut the electricity off due to our landlords’ debts.” This unexpected setback prompted the couple to pivot and explore new opportunities. After reaching out to the Gracechurch Centre, they secured the new location and transformed it into the Victorian Tea Room.
The inspiration for the tearoom came during a visit to Leamington Spa, where Hannah’s son was fascinated by a quaint tea room serving simple cakes and tea. This experience inspired them to create a space that emphasizes simplicity and nostalgia. “We want people to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life,” Hannah said. “It’s an experience—a chance to put your phone down and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere.”
The Victorian Tea Room is open daily from 09:00 to 16:00 and can also be hired for private events. It aims to offer a unique alternative to nearby coffee shops, providing a charming environment for guests to unwind and savor traditional treats.
Hannah, who previously worked as a teacher, has faced significant personal challenges over the years. In 2021, she lost several family members, and a GoFundMe campaign was set up to support her children during that difficult time. The resilience shown in her personal life has translated into her business endeavors with Steven. “We are risk-takers,” Steven added, reflecting on their journey. “What’s the worst that can happen?”
The couple’s commitment to quality and tradition is apparent in every aspect of the tearoom, from the homemade cakes to the authentic décor. With the Victorian Tea Room, they not only provide a delightful culinary experience but also offer a space for connection and reflection, drawing patrons into a world that celebrates the charm of the past.
