Morrisons Introduces Daily 10% Discount for Blue Light Card Holders
Morrisons has announced a new initiative offering a **10% discount** at its cafes across the UK, specifically for holders of the **Blue Light Card**. This change, which affects approximately **3.6 million** shoppers, is available every day with no minimum spend requirement. The initiative aims to support emergency services personnel, NHS staff, social care workers, and armed forces members by providing them with a more affordable dining option.
The discount is applicable to a variety of meals in Morrisons cafes, including popular items such as fish and chips, sausage and mash, and the Morrisons Big Breakfast. Customers simply need to present their Blue Light Card to benefit from the reduced prices throughout the day. Additionally, families can take advantage of a special promotion where a child aged **16 or under** can receive a free meal and drink when an adult purchases a main meal priced at **£5** or more from the Breakfasts or Classics menus.
Chris Strong, the Senior Cafe Trader at Morrisons, expressed pride in supporting those in the emergency services with this initiative. He stated, “We’re proud to support the incredible individuals in the emergency services who go above and beyond every day by introducing a **10% Blue Light Card discount** in our cafes. Whether popping in for coffee, cake, or one of our tasty meals, being able to offer our great value favourites for even less is our way of saying thank you.”
The Blue Light Card scheme has seen significant uptake, with over **3.6 million** individuals registered, according to **NHS Professionals** and Blue Light Card. This service provides discounts at over **13,000 retailers** across the UK, further demonstrating its popularity among those who serve the community.
While many shoppers have welcomed the new discount, reactions have varied. Some customers have praised the initiative for its potential to assist community care staff during their busy schedules. One shopper commented, “A great help to those community care staff between calls – as long as there is a Morrisons with a cafe nearby.”
Conversely, some users expressed frustration regarding the status of cafe operations in certain locations. One individual remarked on social media, “Is this a joke? The cafes have been closed in many stores?” This highlights ongoing concerns about accessibility to the discount in various regions.
As Morrisons seeks to differentiate itself in a competitive market that includes major rivals like **Asda**, **Tesco**, **Sainsbury’s**, **Aldi**, and **Lidl**, this discount initiative may serve to enhance customer loyalty and attract new patrons. The offering underscores the supermarket’s commitment to value, particularly for those who contribute significantly to public welfare.
In summary, Morrisons’ introduction of a **10% discount** for Blue Light Card holders not only aims to provide financial relief but also reinforces the supermarket’s connection to the communities it serves. As the initiative rolls out, it will be interesting to observe its impact on customer engagement and overall sales at Morrisons cafes.
