Matt Axton and Badmoon Set to Rock Guthrie Center on September 19
Musician Matt Axton and his band Badmoon will perform at the Guthrie Center in Great Barrington on September 19 at 20:00 as part of the venue’s Troubadour Series. This performance promises to honor a rich family legacy deeply rooted in American music.
Axton hails from a family with a significant musical heritage. His grandmother, Mae Boren Axton, co-wrote the iconic song “Heartbreak Hotel” for Elvis Presley. His father, Hoyt Axton, contributed timeless hits like “Joy to the World” and “Never Been to Spain” for Three Dog Night, as well as “The Pusher” for Steppenwolf. Axton expresses pride in carrying forward this artistic legacy.
Embracing a Musical Heritage
“For me, I sort of jumped right into my family’s legacy,” Axton shared in an interview with The Berkshire Edge. “My music is carrying a legacy that keeps my family’s artistic vision alive.” He emphasizes that while the weight of this legacy can be significant, it is more joyous than burdensome. “I’m taking it with a smile,” he said.
Axton has been actively releasing a series of singles on his website, describing his music as “a humble slice of Americana.” He elaborates on the term, explaining that Americana encompasses a wide range of musical styles, including blues, rock and roll, folk, bluegrass, soul, and country. “It can be daunting at times, but I think it’s beautiful because it allows us to be hyper-eclectic, just like my father was,” he stated.
A Unique Musical Experience
Axton’s sound leans towards a rock-centered style, featuring “a little more double guitar.” He promises an engaging experience for attendees at the upcoming concert, stating, “When you come to one of our shows, we will take you on a bunch of musical journeys.” Axton emphasizes that the ultimate goal of their music is to spread joy. “Our music is supposed to help in figuring out how to add more joy to the world,” he added, acknowledging the simplicity of this message while affirming its importance.
Tickets for the September 19 event at the Guthrie Center are available online, and fans are encouraged to secure their spots to witness Axton’s tribute to his family’s musical legacy. For additional details about Matt Axton and his music, visit his official website.
