Jeremy Clarkson and James May Spark New Feud Over WWII Aircraft
The longstanding rivalry between television presenters Jeremy Clarkson and James May flared up once again on March 5, 2024, as the two exchanged heated remarks on social media. The duo, who have enjoyed significant success together on the BBC’s motoring show Top Gear and The Grand Tour on Prime Video, have been known for their playful banter, particularly after they concluded their adventures with a final trip to Zimbabwe and Botswana.
In recent years, both Clarkson and May have pursued separate ventures, with May co-owning The Royal Oak pub in Swallowcliffe, Wiltshire, since 2014. Clarkson, who has joined May in the hospitality industry, recently purchased The Windmill in Asthall, near Burford, for approximately £1,000,000, renaming it The Farmer’s Dog. Despite their individual pursuits, the two have frequently engaged in light-hearted jabs at one another, often through interviews and social media platforms.
The latest exchange began when May took to X to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Supermarine Spitfire. He tweeted, “Today marks the 90th anniversary of the Supermarine Spitfire being less important than the Hawker Hurricane in winning the Battle of Britain and securing humanity’s future. Repeat, please.”
Clarkson, not one to shy away from a challenge, quickly responded, stating, “We have discussed this many times and we have agreed many times that you are wrong on this issue.” This public disagreement sparked a flurry of reactions from fans, many of whom found the banter entertaining. One user humorously posted a gif of popcorn being eaten, while another suggested the pair should create a show dedicated to their ongoing debates.
The playful spat has not only entertained their followers but also highlighted the unique camaraderie that has developed among the trio of Clarkson, May, and Richard Hammond, who has often been the voice of reason in their exchanges. One fan noted, “Richard Hammond should be here calling you both muppets,” illustrating the dynamic that has kept audiences engaged over the years.
While both Clarkson and May have moved on to new projects, their ability to engage in friendly rivalry continues to resonate with fans. As they forge ahead in their respective careers, it is clear that the chemistry that defined their collaborations remains intact, providing a source of entertainment that is hard to replicate.
