Jake Paul Slams Gervonta Davis After Netflix Fight Cancellation
Jake Paul has publicly criticized Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis following the abrupt cancellation of their highly anticipated exhibition match, originally scheduled for next week. The event, which was expected to be one of Netflix’s biggest sports offerings of the year, was called off due to Davis facing legal issues stemming from a civil lawsuit filed by his former girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, in Miami. The lawsuit alleges multiple instances of assault and battery, with Rossel claiming she was assaulted and choked on several occasions during their five-month relationship.
The fallout from the cancellation quickly turned into a public feud. In a heated social media post, Paul accused Davis of unprofessional behavior, stating that the boxer had repeatedly shown up late and was difficult to work with during the promotion process. Expressing his frustration, Paul emphasized the wasted effort and resources devoted to the event, labelling Davis as “a piece of garbage” for the chaos caused.
In his Instagram Stories, Paul did not hold back, stating, “Gervonta Davis is an actual walking human piece of garbage. Working with him is an absolute nightmare. The unprofessionalism, the bizarre requests, the showing up hours late to shoots.” He added, “If you support this man, you support the most vile sin a man can commit.” Paul expressed regret over the cancellation affecting fans and undercard fighters, particularly those who had traveled significant distances to attend.
Despite the turmoil, Paul remains optimistic about continuing his fighting career. He expressed a desire to headline another event on Netflix before the end of the year. Netflix has confirmed that Paul will indeed lead a different event, with details regarding the date and venue yet to be announced.
Paul’s team is actively exploring new opponents, with names such as Andre Ward, Ryan Garcia, and Francis Ngannou reportedly in consideration as potential replacements. In a statement, Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of Most Valuable Promotions, said, “While we will not be moving forward with this event, our plan still remains for Jake Paul to headline an event on Netflix in 2025. We thank Netflix, the Kaseya Center, and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for their partnership.”
The abrupt cancellation has raised questions about the future of promotional boxing events on streaming platforms, particularly in light of the growing scrutiny surrounding athletes and their conduct outside the ring. As the situation unfolds, fans and the boxing community will be watching closely to see how Paul’s next move shapes his career and the broader landscape of sports entertainment.
