Iconic Star Wars Exhibition Launches in Alnwick This March
A highly anticipated exhibition titled “May The Toys Be With You” will open at the Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery in Alnwick from March 5 to May 30, 2024. This exhibition showcases the extensive collection of Matt Fox, featuring one of the UK’s most impressive assortments of original cinema posters and vintage Star Wars toys.
The Star Wars franchise, which first premiered in 1977, revolutionized the film industry and became a cultural phenomenon. During the period from 1977 to 1985, approximately 300 million action figures were sold, captivating children around the globe and allowing them to engage with the legendary stories of characters like Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker.
Exhibition Highlights and Activities
This retro exhibition not only celebrates the artistic and design achievements of the Star Wars films but also highlights the vintage toy line, which includes iconic items such as lightsabers and X-Wing Fighters. Visitors will enjoy a special trail featuring characters like Baby Yoda and Darth Vader within the museum’s permanent collection. Additionally, a variety of interactive activities will be available for guests of all ages.
Jean Humphrys, chair at Bailiffgate, expressed enthusiasm for the exhibition, stating, “This is an irresistible opportunity for individuals of all ages to explore a vast, scarce collection of Star Wars treasures.” She noted that the exhibition has previously set attendance records at multiple museums across the country, enhancing the excitement surrounding its debut in Alnwick.
Exclusive Preview and Special Events
An exclusive preview evening with Matt Fox will take place on March 3, 2024, at 19:00. Guests will have the chance to be among the first to experience the exhibition and meet the owner of the collection. Tickets for this special event are available through the museum’s website.
On March 8, members of the North East Legion will entertain visitors by roaming the streets of Alnwick in their Star Wars costumes. Those who take a photo alongside a character will receive a 10% discount on their entry to the exhibition.
With its intriguing displays and interactive experiences, “May The Toys Be With You” promises to be a captivating event for Star Wars enthusiasts and families alike. Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of this unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the beloved universe of Star Wars.
