Hugh Jackman Discusses Family Future at AFI Fest Debut with Sutton Foster
Hugh Jackman shared insights about his children’s potential acting careers during a recent red carpet appearance for the premiere of his film, *Song Sung Blue*, at the 2025 AFI Fest. The acclaimed actor, who is 57 years old, expressed his hopes for his adoptive children, Oscar Maximilian, aged 25, and Ava Eliot, aged 20, while speaking to E! News.
“They’d both be very good [as actors], but I don’t know,” Jackman remarked, emphasizing his desire for them to pursue their passions. “I just want them to do what they love.”
New Beginnings and Rebuilding Relationships
This event marked Jackman’s first public appearance with his new girlfriend, Sutton Foster, who is 50. Their relationship comes on the heels of Jackman’s divorce from actress Deborra-Lee Furness, which was finalized in June 2025. The former couple, who were married for nearly 30 years, announced their separation in September 2023, surprising many in Hollywood.
In the wake of their split, reports have indicated that Jackman and Furness are working to rebuild their friendship. An insider revealed to Radar Online that “Hugh has been trying to make peace with Debs for a long while now.” The source noted that recent conversations between them in New York have shown significant improvement in their relationship, which is beneficial for their children.
Furness, who described the end of their marriage as a “traumatic betrayal” earlier this year, has since expressed a desire for closure. The source added, “It really is time to let the hatred and anger go.”
Divorce Settlement and Moving Forward
The divorce proceedings were finalized on June 12, 2025, with the judgment made public shortly thereafter. An insider mentioned that Furness will receive a substantial spousal support payment as part of the settlement, which she is reportedly satisfied with. “There was some back and forth regarding this financial agreement, but in the end, she got what she believed she deserved,” the insider confirmed.
Jackman and Furness’s divorce was described as “uncontested,” indicating that there were no major disputes regarding their separation. As they move forward, both appear committed to maintaining an amicable relationship for the sake of their children.
In the midst of personal changes, Jackman continues to focus on his career, with *Song Sung Blue* marking another significant project in his extensive filmography. As he navigates this new chapter, Jackman remains dedicated to supporting his children’s futures, whatever paths they may choose.
