Steam Packet Launches New Larne Route at Holiday World Show
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company showcased its new ferry route from Larne at the Holiday World Show, held at the Waterfront ICC in Belfast from January 9 to January 11, 2026. This event, recognized as Northern Ireland’s largest travel exhibition, was an opportunity for the company to highlight improved travel connections between Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and the Isle of Man.
Central to the exhibition was the announcement of the upcoming ferry service between Larne and the Isle of Man, set to launch in April 2026. The full schedule is expected to be operational by July 2026, with the service planned to run three times a week throughout the year. This development aims to provide greater flexibility for leisure travelers, business users, and freight operators.
Laura Gilmour, general manager of Larne Harbour, expressed enthusiasm about the new service, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company’s new service to Larne. This route not only enhances connectivity across the Irish Sea but also highlights Larne’s strategic position as a gateway for both leisure and freight travel.” Gilmour emphasized the potential long-term benefits for passengers and businesses in the region.
In addition to the new Larne route, the Steam Packet Company will continue to operate its established service to Dublin. The vessels Manannan and Manxman will provide seasonal connections from April to September, linking the Isle of Man with the Republic of Ireland. Starting in July 2026, the Ben-my-Chree will serve both the Larne and Dublin routes, featuring significant interior refurbishments aimed at increasing capacity and enhancing passenger comfort.
The Holiday World Show attracted thousands of visitors, showcasing a wide range of international destinations, travel options, and tourism organizations. In a statement, Brian Thomson, managing director of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, noted the event’s importance: “The Holiday World Show provides an excellent opportunity to engage directly with the Northern Ireland travel trade and media as we prepare to launch our new Larne route in 2026. This service significantly strengthens connectivity between Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man and reflects our long-term commitment to growing travel and tourism across the Irish Sea.”
Throughout the three-day event, representatives from both the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and Visit Isle of Man engaged with attendees, offering insights into sailing schedules, travel options, and destination highlights. Their presence underscored a collaborative effort to enhance tourism and transport links between the regions, fostering a greater understanding of the opportunities available to travelers.
The new Larne route represents a strategic development in regional transport, promising to enhance the travel experience for both residents and visitors while boosting local economies.
