South Eastern Trust Social Workers Honoured at Annual Awards
Social work staff from the South Eastern Trust were celebrated for their exceptional contributions at the annual Professional in Practice Awards held at the Lisburn Civic Centre. A total of 30 social workers received awards, marking a significant recognition of their dedication to providing high-quality care and support within the community.
Acknowledging Excellence in Social Work
The awards ceremony highlighted the achievements of 11 staff members who earned the Northern Ireland Consolidation Award and 19 who received the Northern Ireland Specialist Award in Social Work. These accolades reflect the commitment of social workers to enhance their professional skills and deliver effective services.
The Northern Ireland Consolidation Award is designated for newly qualified social workers or those returning to the profession. This award aims to foster the development of comprehensive skills, enabling practitioners to become well-rounded and confident in their roles. Conversely, the Northern Ireland Specialist Award is awarded to social workers engaged in complex decision-making, signifying their high levels of professional responsibility and accountability.
Celebrating Community Connections
This year’s event was themed “Belonging in Social Work,” emphasizing the importance of connection and professional identity. Speakers at the ceremony discussed the vital role of social workers in fostering a sense of belonging among service users, carers, and communities.
Lyn Preece, Director of Children’s Services and Executive Director of Social Work at the South Eastern Trust, commended the award recipients. She stated, “Congratulations to all the social workers recognised at the Professional in Practice Awards. Your dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to supporting others make a lasting difference in people’s lives and in our communities.”
Preece expressed her delight in celebrating not just the achievements of these professionals, but also the significant impact of their daily practice.
Tracy Reid, Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Social Care Council, opened the ceremony with her own congratulations. She acknowledged the hard work required to achieve these awards and thanked the families, friends, colleagues, and managers who support social workers throughout their journeys. Reid remarked, “Their dedication and commitment to their lifelong learning journey in the profession through their practice, energy, and passion for supporting those in need of social work services in the community, is just wonderful to see.”
The recognition of social workers at this event not only highlights individual accomplishments but also underscores the collective dedication within the profession to improve lives and strengthen communities.
