Llangollen Riverside Park to Feature New Outdoor Gym Area

A new outdoor gym area is set to be established at Riverside Park in Llangollen, aimed at enhancing health and wellbeing for residents and visitors alike. Funded by the Shared Prosperity Transitional Year, the project will be overseen by the Streetscene department of Denbighshire County Council. The new gym will be located behind the existing skate park and will involve several modifications to the area.
The planned developments include the removal of the existing hedgerow to create space for the outdoor gym equipment. Additionally, landscaping will take place to improve the aesthetics of the immediate vicinity. The project will also feature the installation of various outdoor gym equipment pieces, catering to a range of fitness activities.
In conjunction with the gym, enhancements will be made near the picnic area, which will involve the removal of another hedgerow. New bow top fencing will be installed, along with a pedestrian access gate and an accessible picnic bench, ensuring that the area becomes more user-friendly. Necessary ground works will accompany these installations to ensure safety and accessibility.
This initiative follows a series of improvements at Riverside Park over the past few years. Notable additions have included a bespoke 9-hole mini golf course and new play equipment, all aimed at enriching the recreational offerings of the park.
Cllr Barry Mellor, Denbighshire County Council’s Lead Member for Environment and Transport, expressed enthusiasm about the ongoing improvements. He stated, “We are pleased to be able to continue improvements along this fantastic area at Llangollen through the funding we have been able to access. This work will complement areas that have already undergone improvement at Riverside Park through the direction of Streetscene to further enhance this important part of the town for both the enjoyment of residents and those visiting Llangollen.”
The construction of the outdoor gym represents a significant step forward in promoting active lifestyles within the community. It reflects a growing trend in public parks to include fitness facilities that encourage outdoor activities and social interaction among users.
As the project progresses, residents and visitors can look forward to a more vibrant Riverside Park that supports health and wellness while fostering community engagement. Further updates on the development timeline and completion dates will be provided by Denbighshire County Council as the plans move forward.
