Henley Hopper Bus Service Boosts Revenue After Expansion
The expansion of the Henley Hopper bus service has significantly increased its revenue, generating over £16,350 in the eleven months up to December 2025. This marks a substantial rise from £10,592 collected in the same period the previous year. The service enhancement, which began in March 2025, involved increasing operational days from three to five, alongside a fare adjustment for adult single tickets and one-day passes.
Service Details and Community Impact
Operating from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the Henley Hopper covers three routes within the town center, all originating and concluding at the Market Place. This service is subsidised by the Henley Town Council, which allocated an additional £70,000 to support the extended schedule. The funding fulfills a commitment made by the ruling Henley Residents Group during local elections.
The bus service is managed by Reading-based TK Travel, which took over operations in 2020 after Reading Buses discontinued the service. The recent financial success has been welcomed by local officials.
During a recent meeting of the council’s finance strategy and management committee, Councillor Ian Reissmann expressed satisfaction with the service’s performance. “It’s really good to see the increased service we provided is clearly being taken up, which is of value to the community and that’s excellent to see,” he stated.
Future Prospects and Community Engagement
The rise in revenue is a positive indicator of community engagement with public transportation options. The increased frequency of the Henley Hopper aligns well with the council’s objectives to enhance local mobility and provide reliable transport services for residents.
As public interest in sustainable transport solutions continues to grow, the Henley Hopper’s success may serve as a model for similar initiatives in other regions. The funding and operational adjustments reflect an ongoing commitment to improve public transport accessibility, benefitting both residents and visitors in the town.
The Henley Hopper’s performance will likely be monitored closely as the council evaluates the long-term viability of the expanded service. With continued support and potential future enhancements, the bus service could play a crucial role in shaping Henley’s transport landscape.
