Dodgy to Launch New Single ‘Hello Beautiful’ in Kingston
Indie band Dodgy is set to unveil their new single, Hello Beautiful, on September 26, 2023, at Bacchus Wine Bar in Kingston upon Thames. This release heralds a significant return for the band, marking their first new material since 2016’s album, What Are We Fighting For. The new track, described as a blend of shimmering guitars and uplifting harmonies, embodies the essence of Dodgy while showcasing a renewed energy.
The single is part of an upcoming sixth studio album, also titled Hello Beautiful, which is scheduled for release in May 2026. This album represents a culmination of the band’s experiences over the past decade, resulting in what they consider their most accomplished work. Dodgy aims to connect with both long-time fans and new listeners through this collection of songs that resonates with themes of optimism and reflection.
Celebrating a Legacy
The launch event at Bacchus Wine Bar holds particular significance for Dodgy, as it was the original site of the Dodgy Club, where the band first gained traction on the live music circuit. Performing there on the anniversary of the venue’s opening will be a poignant moment for the band, coinciding with exactly 35 years since they began their musical journey.
In addition to the single launch, Dodgy will embark on an official UK headlining tour starting on October 2, 2023, at The Liquid Room in Edinburgh. The tour will include performances with fellow indie legends Black Grape, beginning at Queen Margaret Union in Glasgow on November 28 and concluding at Manchester Academy on December 20. Each concert promises to be a celebration of their legacy, offering fans an intimate experience where they can engage with the band directly.
Reflections on New Music
Reflecting on the new single, Dodgy’s lead vocalist, Nigel Clark, stated, “Hello Beautiful is more than just a song – it’s a message. We wanted to return with something uplifting, something that would bring a smile and remind people why they fell in love with music in the first place.” The sentiment emphasizes the band’s desire to reconnect with their audience after a significant hiatus from recording.
Drummer Mathew Priest echoed Clark’s sentiments, highlighting the emotional aspect of returning to Kingston for the launch. He remarked, “Going back to Kingston to launch this single is emotional for us – it’s where the whole thing started.” This reflects a broader narrative of continuity and resilience, as Dodgy celebrates their enduring presence in the music industry.
Formed in the late 1980s, Dodgy rose to prominence during the Britpop era of the 1990s, achieving significant commercial success with hits like Good Enough. Their music has resonated widely, with over two million records sold and more than 50 million streams globally. As they prepare to release Hello Beautiful, Dodgy continues to embrace the melody, optimism, and camaraderie that have defined their career.
The forthcoming album and single not only mark a return to the studio for Dodgy but also highlight their commitment to creating music that feels both timely and timeless. As they move forward, the band looks to celebrate their rich history while inviting new listeners to join them on their journey. For ticket information and tour details, visit www.dodgyology.com.
