Tregaron Falls Short Against Llangadog in Close National League Match

In a tightly contested match, Tregaron faced a disappointing defeat against Llangadog in the Admiral National League. Although the scoreline may suggest a clear disparity, Tregaron had a higher percentage of possession and generated more scoring opportunities. The critical difference lay in Llangadog’s efficiency, converting three of their chances into tries, while Tregaron failed to capitalize on any of theirs.

Llangadog took advantage of a crosswind in the first half, keeping Tregaron pinned in their own territory for the initial 15 minutes. The first points of the game came during this period, initiated by a strong forward drive that culminated in Telor Dyer crossing the try line. Ceri Williams successfully added the extra points.

The visitors showcased a dynamic set of young backs, consistently opting to run the ball. Tregaron’s defence held firm until the 15-minute mark, when impressive passing play allowed Iestyn Williams to score in the corner. The conversion was again converted successfully, extending Llangadog’s lead.

As the first half progressed, Tregaron began to find their rhythm. They won front foot ball, and their backs appeared increasingly dangerous. Winger Hefin Ebenezer came close to scoring, but the referee ruled that an opponent had managed to hold up the ball before it crossed the line.

Despite gaining momentum, Tregaron struggled with execution. They created multiple scoring opportunities, yet poor handling and decision-making prevented them from securing any points. Moreover, they opted not to attempt several kickable penalties during the first half.

After the break, Tregaron emerged with renewed energy, controlling possession and putting themselves in advantageous positions. However, the pattern from the first half continued, as they failed to convert chances into tries. Once again, they turned down opportunities for penalty kicks, which could have changed the outcome.

The final quarter saw a more balanced contest with play shifting from one end of the field to the other. Llangadog added their third try following a series of pick-and-drives, with Dyer crossing the line for the second time in the match.

Despite the loss, Tregaron’s acting captain Steve Robers was recognized as the man of the match, reflecting his leadership and performance on the field. As Tregaron prepares to celebrate their 50th anniversary, the coaching staff has several areas to address to improve their performance moving forward.
