Danny Malin Exits Rate My Takeaway Over Ownership Dispute
Danny Malin, the host of the popular YouTube food review channel Rate My Takeaway, has announced his departure from the channel amid a dispute regarding ownership. Malin created the channel during the pandemic in 2020 as a light-hearted way to highlight local takeaways in the UK, providing a dose of cheer as restaurants closed their doors. His unique format, featuring him dining outside at a folding table, quickly gained traction, resulting in nearly 750,000 subscribers and millions of views within just five years.
In a video posted on his Mr and Mrs Yorkshire channel on September 6, 2023, Malin discussed the reasons for his exit, stating that he had not been treated as an equal partner in the business. He suggested that this imbalance stemmed from his cameraman and editor, who he felt had failed to provide him with equal access to resources and decision-making. “I’ve always said that it’s three of us, that we split things equally… but from day one I’ve struggled to achieve that,” he explained.
Malin also hinted at potential legal action related to the dispute. He noted, “I can only go into so much detail… because I believe there’ll be legal action on the way,” indicating that the situation might escalate further.
Despite the challenges, Malin expressed deep gratitude towards his fans, acknowledging their support as “absolutely amazing.” He emphasized that the community surrounding Rate My Takeaway had significantly impacted his life, stating, “Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for all the support, the kind messages, the chats we’ve had in the street, and the good times we’ve had. It’s been absolutely amazing.”
Future Plans for Malin
While his role with Rate My Takeaway appears to be over, Malin reassured fans that he would continue producing content. He plans to focus on his Mr and Mrs Yorkshire channel and is exploring new food-related projects. “I love creating content… it just needs to evolve,” he remarked, hinting at an exciting new direction for his work.
Fans of Malin can expect to see his creative efforts continue as he shifts gears and navigates the next chapter of his career. His departure from Rate My Takeaway marks the end of an era for the beloved channel, but it also opens up opportunities for fresh content and innovative ideas.
