Glasgow’s Julie Lin Departs GaGa, Embraces New Culinary Ventures
Glasgow chef and broadcaster Julie Lin has officially stepped down from her roles as head chef and director of the acclaimed restaurant GaGa. This decision marks a significant transition for both Lin and the establishment, which was recognised with a Bib Gourmand distinction earlier this year at the Michelin Guide ceremony for its unique fusion of Malaysian and Scottish flavours.
Located on Dumbarton Road, GaGa began as a street food stall at SWG3 during the pandemic. Lin’s innovative approach captured the attention of food enthusiasts, leading to the rapid growth of the stall into a successful restaurant. Her culinary style, characterised by creativity and a commitment to hospitality, has been pivotal in establishing GaGa’s reputation.
Looking ahead, Lin is eager to explore new opportunities in television, broadcasting, and education. She plans to engage in pop-up restaurants and consultancy projects, reflecting her diverse interests in the culinary world. Lin expressed heartfelt gratitude towards her dedicated team, stating, “A restaurant is nothing without its people, and I’m so proud of the creativity, energy, and care they brought to every service.”
In her farewell, Lin acknowledged the importance of the experiences gained at GaGa. “Watching them grow and thrive has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey,” she said, affirming her pride in the team’s accomplishments.
As she embarks on this new chapter, Lin remains optimistic about the future. “I see a bright future ahead, and while I blow out the candle on this venture, I’m lighting another in a new room full of possibility,” she noted. “Every chapter brings lessons and growth, and I’ll carry everything I’ve learned here forward with me into what’s next.”
The culinary community in Glasgow has expressed appreciation for Lin’s contributions, recognising her influence on the local food scene. As she moves into new initiatives, her legacy at GaGa will undoubtedly continue to inspire both her team and patrons alike.
