Thatcham Singing Coach Jamie Read Celebrates 20 Years of Empowering Voices

Former West End performer Jamie Read is marking a significant milestone as he celebrates 20 years of coaching aspiring singers in Thatcham. Since launching his one-on-one singing lessons in September 2005, Read has transformed the lives of countless individuals through his expert guidance and passion for music.
A Journey from the West End to Thatcham
Read, who has shared the stage with notable talents such as Judi Dench and Brian Blessed, returned to the UK after an international tour to establish his coaching practice. What began as a small venture with a handful of local singers has flourished into a thriving business. He now supports hundreds of clients, including recording artists, award-winning West End performers, and television celebrities.
“I never imagined when I started out that I would have well-known performers traveling from London to little old Thatcham to come and work with me!” Read expressed, reflecting on his unexpected success. His credentials include teaching at the prestigious Italia Conti drama school, which boasts an impressive roster of alumni, including Layton Williams from “Strictly Come Dancing” and West End star Sam Tutty.
Empowering Through Music
Over the past two decades, Read has had the unique opportunity to help people discover and embrace their singing abilities. “The last 20 years have given me the chance to help hundreds and hundreds of people own their voice, which is a joy and a privilege,” he noted. The transformative experiences he facilitates often lead to remarkable moments as students overcome their fears and unlock their potential.
“That moment when someone sings a note they didn’t think they could, or steps into their power and lets go of the inhibitions and fear that are holding them back… it’s just magic, every time,” he added. Read’s private coaching studio is located in the historic Old Bluecoat School in Thatcham, a setting he describes as ideal for nurturing creativity and talent.
In addition to individual coaching, Read runs a Musical Theatre Choir, based at the Frank Hutchings Hall. He has also collaborated with renowned choir conductor Gareth Malone, conducting the choir for several dates on Malone’s UK tour last year.

As Jamie Read celebrates this remarkable 20-year journey, he continues to inspire and empower voices in Thatcham and beyond, proving that music has the power to change lives.
