Community Mourns Loss of David Benton and Other Local Figures
The Cambridgeshire community is mourning the loss of several beloved residents, including David Benton, who passed away peacefully at Arthur Rank Hospice on August 3, 2025, at the age of 94. Benton, known for his contributions to the local bakery scene through Benton’s Bakery, is remembered fondly by family and friends alike.
Funeral announcements published this week reveal a number of tributes to those who have recently passed away. Local news media has played a significant role in honouring these individuals, providing a platform for families to share memories and details of memorial services. Each notice appears on funeral-notices.co.uk, ensuring a lasting online tribute.
Tributes to Local Lives Lost
The funeral service for David Benton will be held at Cambridge City Crematorium, specifically in the West Chapel, on August 29, 2025, at 12:15 PM. A devoted husband to the late Margaret Benton, Benton was a cherished father to Barry and Angela, and a beloved grandfather to Jack, Rebecca, and Dan. His family requests that flowers be limited to family members, with donations encouraged for Arthur Rank Hospice Charities.
In addition to Benton, the community remembers Ronald Hawkes, who passed away at the age of 99 on July 28, 2025. A respected husband and father, Hawkes spent his final days at the same hospice, and donations in his memory can be sent directly to the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.
Other notable announcements include the passing of Pearl Cynthia Humphries, aged 89, who died on August 3, 2025, and whose funeral will take place at Whittlesford Church on August 21. Family members are invited to send floral tributes to Peasgood and Skeates in Duxford.
The community also mourns the loss of Norman John Noble, aged 77, who passed peacefully at home on July 23, 2025. His funeral service will occur at St Peter’s Church on September 2 at 2:00 PM, followed by interment in the churchyard.
Celebrating Lives and Legacy
The tributes extend to Sylvia Marie Norman, who died on August 5, 2025, at the age of 90, and whose funeral will be conducted at the Cambridge City Crematorium on August 28. Family flowers only, but donations can be made for Cancer Research UK or Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Another cherished member of the community, Rachel Whitmore, passed away on July 18, 2025, at the age of 61. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of her life on August 23 at her favourite local pub, The Greyhound, where attendees are encouraged to wear colourful attire.
