Barbie Designers Killed in Fatal Collision on Italian Highway

A tragic car accident on the Turin-Milan highway claimed the lives of renowned Barbie designers Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Both men, celebrated for their innovative contributions to the iconic doll’s design, were involved in a head-on collision with an elderly driver, Egidio Ceriano, aged 82. Reports indicate that Ceriano was driving in the wrong lane at a speed of approximately 130 km/h (80 mph) when the crash occurred.

The collision involved a Peugeot 3008 SUV carrying Paglino and Grossi, along with two others: Amodio Giumi, a 37-year-old bank employee, and his 36-year-old wife, who is the sole survivor of the incident. Following the crash, she was rushed to Niguarda Hospital in Milan, where she is currently in intensive care with multiple injuries, including a fractured arm and leg, as well as chest trauma. While her condition is serious, it is not considered life-threatening.

Authorities reported that Ceriano had missed a toll booth and, upon turning around to re-enter the motorway, inadvertently drove for several kilometers in the wrong direction before the fatal collision.
