A significant pipeline rupture in Hyderabad caused early morning flooding in several residential areas on March 12, 2024. The incident involved a high-pressure pipeline managed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), which burst around 02:40 am near Nagulamma Temple. The break in the pipeline, which stretches from Khanapur to Bojagutta, led to extensive water discharge, affecting numerous neighborhoods.

In response to the emergency, HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy announced that water supply was shut off at 03:00 am to mitigate further damage. Repairs commenced at 07:00 am, with the damaged sections being replaced using 1,150 MS barrels. Officials confirmed that water supply would be restored in phases following the completion of repairs.

The rupture resulted in flooding across various localities, including Kokapet, Gandipet, Manikonda, Narsingi, Manchirevula, and Puppalguda. The rapid discharge of water also impacted areas under the commands of the Bojagutta and Shaikpet reservoirs. Fortunately, the nearby Pandena Vagu canal played a crucial role in draining a substantial amount of water, thereby preventing more extensive flooding in other residential colonies.

To alleviate the inconvenience faced by residents during the repair process, water tankers have been deployed to the affected areas. HMWSSB officials are coordinating efforts to ensure that residents receive timely assistance while the pipeline repairs take place. The situation is being monitored closely, with updates on the restoration of water supply expected as the repair work progresses.
