Boston Symphony Orchestra Wins Two 2026 GRAMMY® Awards; Local Events Shine

The Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) celebrated a significant achievement with two wins at the 2026 GRAMMY® Awards. The awards were presented in Los Angeles, recognizing the orchestra’s recordings of “Messiaen: Turangalîla-Symphonie” and “Shostakovich: The Cello Concertos.” This success highlights the ongoing excellence of the BSO under the direction of Music Director Andris Nelsons and features acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

With these latest awards, the BSO now boasts a total of 13 GRAMMY® awards throughout its storied history. The recordings were captured at Boston’s Symphony Hall, with the Messiaen piece featuring pianist Yuja Wang and noted ondes Martenot player Cécile Lartigau. The Shostakovich cello concertos, recorded in October 2023, were released as a standalone album, winning the award for Best Classical Instrument Solo, marking Ma’s 20th GRAMMY® win.

BSO President and CEO Chad Smith expressed pride in the orchestra’s recognition and commitment to excellence, stating, “Being nominated for four GRAMMYs this year—the most of any orchestra—is an amazing achievement.”

Networking Events and Community Initiatives in the Berkshires

On February 17, 2026, recording artist Jackson Whalan will host a Berkshires Music Mixer at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington. On the same day, the Nonprofit Center of the Berkshires will launch “REEL GOOD: Nonprofits Strengthening the Berkshires,” a film sharing event at the Berkshire Athenaeum in Pittsfield. This initiative will feature short films from 20 local nonprofits, showcasing their missions and inviting community engagement. According to McCaela Donovan, Associate Director of the Nonprofit Center, “This event uses storytelling to amplify their impact and reach new audiences.”
