Retail Unit in Alsager Hits Rental Market After Closure
A retail unit in Alsager is now available for rent following the closure of its tenant, The Dog’s Dinner. The branch, located on Lawton Road, ceased operations on October 21, 2023, due to rising operational costs, new parking charges, and a decline in customer foot traffic. The closure of this location marked a significant shift for the business, which continues to operate its other store on Ruskin Road in Crewe.
The Alsager property is listed for rent at £10,400 per annum through estate agents Louis Taylor. Currently, the unit is under offer. The listing describes the space as a “well-presented ground floor retail/professional unit” that features good visibility on the busy Lawton Road, alongside a rear staff welfare area situated on a different level. The property is deemed suitable for various retail and professional services.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, The Dog’s Dinner expressed its regret about the closure. The post stated, “We did not expect to be posting this so soon after opening, but sadly the Alsager branch of The Dog’s Dinner will be closing on Tuesday, October 21. We have loved meeting the dogs of this amazing town, but sadly a combination of rising costs, parking battles, and a falling pawfall means we can’t sustain a second shop. Thanks so much for your warm welcome and support since we opened. It has been an absolute joy to meet everyone – we are just gutted we couldn’t make it work.”
Challenges in the retail environment have impacted many businesses, particularly smaller retailers like The Dog’s Dinner. As operational costs increase and consumer behaviour shifts, establishments often find it difficult to maintain multiple locations. The availability of the Alsager unit may attract interest from new businesses looking to capitalize on its prominent position near the intersection of Sandbach Road South and Crewe Road.
As the retail landscape continues to evolve, the situation serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by local businesses in adapting to changing market conditions. The outcome of the current offer on the Alsager property will be closely watched by both the local community and potential new tenants.
