Hide opened in October 2024 and quickly gained popularity for its emphasis on fresh local ingredients, curated by owner Jack Brown and Head Chef Aaron McLellan. In a heartfelt statement, the management noted, “It is with much sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of Hide. We are extremely proud of the product we created and shared with so many; however, 2025 was such a challenging year, and unfortunately, the business became unsustainable.” They acknowledged the hard work of their team, which managed to achieve Michelin recognition within a year of opening.

The statement also reflected on the restaurant’s closing night, saying, “Hide ended 2025 on a bang, bringing in the new year with a full service and smiles on our faces.” It concluded with gratitude to the patrons who supported them, stating, “Thank you for your support and sharing some great moments with us.”

This news follows the recent announcement of another Michelin-starred establishment, Hjem, located in the Hadrian Hotel in Hexham, which also announced its closure after six successful years. On New Year’s Eve, Hjem hosted a farewell event titled “Hjem’s Last Hurrah,” where Head Chef and co-founder Alex Nietosvuori expressed his desire to celebrate the restaurant’s achievements and the people who made it possible.
