Buducnost Faces Gloria in Crucial Champions League Match
Buducnost’s handball team is set to return to the Champions League stage tomorrow against Gloria in Bistrita, Romania. This match marks their first appearance in nearly two months, following a challenging period of inactivity. The encounter is scheduled for 16:00 local time, and it takes place during the ninth round of the elite competition.
In their last meeting on November 2, 2023, Buducnost suffered a narrow defeat, losing 29:26 at home in Moraca. Despite holding a four-goal lead at times, they could not maintain their advantage. Now, the Montenegrin champions are eager to secure a victory and seek revenge against the Romanian side, which currently sits third in Group A with 12 points, while Buducnost languishes at the bottom with just one point.
Determined to Turn the Tide
Buducnost managed to earn their solitary point in the last match against Esbjerg, which ended in a 34:34 draw. This result allowed them to keep their hopes alive for a place in the knockout stage of the tournament. Their competitors, Debrecin, Storhamar, and Borussia Dortmund, each hold four points, making the upcoming matches critical.
Jelena Radivojevic, a key player for Buducnost, expressed her optimism about the upcoming clash. “It has been a long period without Champions League matches, so we return full of energy and eagerness to continue the competition. I am glad that everything depends on us; we are in the race for the next round, and we will give our all to reach the knockout stage,” she said.
Radivojevic highlighted the lessons learned from their previous encounter with Gloria, noting that the match gave them a boost of confidence. “We know that playing in Romania is tough. The atmosphere will be electric, and we are looking forward to enjoying the game. I hope we can continue our performance from before the break,” she added. Radivojevic, who recently retired from the national team, is focused on contributing to her club’s success.
Rising to the Challenge
Nađa Kadovic, another important player for Buducnost, has also been preparing for this challenging match. Having not participated in competitive games for the past two months, Kadovic is eager to return to action. “Some of the girls were with the national team, and they experienced the intensity of playing against teams like Gloria. For us, the match cannot come soon enough,” she said. “It will be tougher than in Podgorica because their crowd will act as the ‘eighth player.’ Communication on the court will be key, and we have been working on that all week.”
Kadovic, who recently extended her contract with Buducnost, believes that the team has a strong chance of making it to the knockout stage. “It feels like the cards are opening up for us in the last two or three rounds, and the way we have been training gives us hope. They say that fortune favors the brave, so we will see if that holds true,” she remarked.
As Buducnost gears up for their remaining matches in the group stage, they will also face Djer and Debrecin on the road, while hosting Borussia, Mec, and Storhamar at home. The stakes are high, and the players are determined to turn their fortunes around.
In Group A, the upcoming fixtures include:
- Saturday 16:00 – Mec vs. Djer
- Saturday 16:00 – Gloria vs. Buducnost
- Saturday 20:00 – Debrecin vs. Storhamar
- Sunday 14:00 – Borussia Dortmund vs. Esbjerg
With the support of their fans and a renewed sense of determination, Buducnost aims to reclaim their position and strive for advancement in the Champions League.
