Actor Mickey Rourke has publicly distanced himself from a viral GoFundMe campaign aimed at raising $100,000 to cover his eviction due to unpaid rent. The campaign, initiated by Liya-Joelle Jones, who claims to be part of Rourke’s management team, has sparked controversy as Rourke insists he would never ask fans for financial help.

In a statement on social media, the 73-year-old actor described the situation as “embarrassing” and expressed his desire to handle his financial issues independently. The GoFundMe campaign surged in popularity, attracting over 2,600 donations within 48 hours and reaching nearly 97% of its goal. This response underscores the public’s concern for the actor, who recently faced a legal notice from his landlord, Eric Goldie, demanding payment of almost $60,000 in overdue rent.

Court documents reveal that Rourke had been paying $5,200 monthly for a three-bedroom property, which later increased to $7,000 per month. Goldie’s request for damages and attorney fees, along with compensation for the lost rental agreement signed in March 2025, adds to the complexities surrounding the actor’s current situation.

Jones’ assertion that the fundraising initiative was launched “with the full consent of Rourke” has come under scrutiny following his rejection of the claim. Rourke took to Instagram to clarify his stance, stating, “There’s only one person I can think of that would do such a thing. I hope it’s not the person I’m thinking about. It’s humiliating.” He urged his supporters to retract their donations, emphasizing that seeking monetary assistance from strangers is not in his character.

In a candid video, Rourke expressed his frustration and disbelief about the crowdfunding effort. “That’s not me, okay? I’d rather, if I needed money, I wouldn’t ask for no f****** charity,” he asserted. He further stated that he had no prior knowledge of the campaign, and the notion of soliciting funds publicly was unappealing to him.

Rourke acknowledged that he had borrowed money from a friend after experiencing financial difficulties but maintained that he would “never ask strangers or fans or anybody for a nickel.” During his reflection, he admitted to past mismanagement of his career and the emotional toll it has taken. “I’ve done a very poor job in the management of my affairs,” he stated, highlighting his commitment to 20 years of therapy to address past issues.

Despite the challenges he faces, Rourke remains determined to overcome his current difficulties without relying on external support. He emphasized his dedication to his craft and his desire to resolve his problems independently. Rourke’s posture reflects a strong sense of pride and self-reliance, showing that he prefers to manage his personal affairs without community-organized campaigns.

As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how Rourke will navigate his financial challenges while maintaining his integrity and reputation in the public eye.
